Young Carers Action Day 2021

March 16th 2021 is Young Carer's Action Day!

The theme this year is: 'Protect Young Carers' Futures'

Young Carers Action Day is an annual event organised by Carers Trust. You can learn more by clicking here to visit their official website.

Everyday, thousands of young people across the UK help to look after someone who is ill, frail, disabled, or has a mental health condition or addiction. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of young carers and the incredible contribution they make to their families and local communities.

We welcome you to join Carers Count and Barnardo's in recognising and celebrating young carers' skills in Kirklees! #YoungCarersActionDay

"How can I get involved?"

If you are aged 12-25 and have caring responsibilities, we think you will enjoy the virtual session we have planned at 4pm on Tuesday 16th March. Make sure you book your place for the opportunity to meet other young carers in the local area!

Take Action!

There are lots of ways to help protect young carers' futures. Carers Trust have created some fantastic resource packs with helpful activities to complete, including a 'Campaign Pack' and 'Skills Journal' which you can download from this page.

Last year, some national charities assisted in the production of a Channel 4 film about young carers which was shown on various channels. It featured the experiences of a young carer called Megan. The film explored some of the issues that challenge young carers in lockdown and self-care as part of the ‘Headstrong’ series of mental health films produced by Channel 4 for their Better Health Every Mind Matters youth mental health campaign.

Here's the clip to watch again and share with others to raise awareness for young carers - enjoy!

Kirklees Libraries teamed up with Rap poet- Rappaman, DJ/Producer- Dan De Lissandri and artist Tasneem Kausar/Kiro Arts to work with a group of Young Adult Carers from Barnardo's to produce a track about their experiences. Please watch and share!
