Carers Count are excited to promote the third annual advocacy awareness week!
This year, more than ever, it seems fitting to dedicate a week to raising awareness of the impact that independent advocacy can have on people’s lives. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many of the issues facing carers and the advocacy sector have become worse. This event is so important because it allows us to highlight and communicate how the people we support and represent have been affected.
NDTi: "#AAW20 is a fantastic opportunity to share our stories of success and highlight what needs to change." Get involved and share your story: #HearMyVoice
What is advocacy and how can it help me as a carer?
‘Advocacy’ is all about people having more control over their own lives. Our advocates are there to support carers going through the social care system, making sure they have access to information and understand the options available to them. They are passionate about empowering carers to speak up and achieve their goals.
Our advocates can support you to access carers' assessments, talk to professionals, discuss support packages, make complaints, resolve issues with direct payments and find information about many other care-related issues. Please watch this video to find out more:
Cloverleaf Advocacy have also produced a sensory story to help people with communication needs to understand what advocacy is, which you can watch here:
